An elderly and thin dog has been found dead in Tycroes, Ammanford with significant injuries.
RSPCA Cymru has launched an appeal for information following the sad discovery. The liver and white springer spaniel had been found near a stream near Quad Challenge, Tycroes, Ammanford and was first seen on 2 February.
RSPCA deputy chief inspector Neill Manley, who took the dog’s body to a vet for an examination, said: “An X-ray on his skull showed he had suffered a non-accidental injury - with the probable cause of death being a blow to the head.
“He also had matted fur around his ear and backend and appeared thin and elderly. It is very sad to see a dog in this condition and to think how he may have suffered.
“We don’t know what has happened to him, but his injuries are suspicious.”
Neill said he was very grateful to the member of the public who reported this finding to the RSPCA.
“We’re not sure how long this dog had been there, and we don’t know where he came from,” said Neill. “The location was rural and was in a wooded area - quite out of the way.
“The dog was microchipped, but the contact details were not up to date. We’d like to thank the person who called this in to us, so we can investigate, however, we’re now calling on the public to help us with our enquiries.”
Anyone with information about this dog is asked to please contact the RSPCA’s cruelty line, in complete confidence, on 0300 1234 999.
