MEMBERS of Ammanford Film Club have celebrated after receiving £9,410 funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The money will be used to fund a community cinema for the town and surrounding communities.
A team of supporters who started the campaign on Facebook have spoken of their delight.
Jamie Hurd said: “The idea had been in my mind for a couple of years so I set up a Facebook group to see what the interest was like. The support from the community has been amazing.”
A location for the cinema is still in the pipeline but work is ongoing to secure a site that will be centrally located.
Jamie added, “We are still working on finalising the paperwork but all will be revealed soon. We are also looking at providing a pop-up facility that could potentially be delivered to rural locations to people who cannot access a cinema. We are passionate about the community side of things and want to provide something for people to get-together and watch a movie in a relaxed atmosphere. There is so much talk of loneliness we want the film to be secondary to the atmosphere we are trying to make.”
