BRITAIN’S farmers will unite next month to show they play a "vital role" in protecting bird species.
Last year, more than 1,400 took part in the Big Farmland Bird Count, organised by the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT).
And the seventh edition of the event, between February 7 and 16, will once again see farmers across the nation count the birds they see on their land.
“Farmers have a vital role play to play in the future of many of our most cherished farmland bird species,” said Dr Roger Draycott, GWCT head of advisory services. “But their efforts to reverse bird declines are often unrecorded.”
He added: “We’re encouraging farmers who haven’t taken part before to give it a go and see what they find.”
