FRAUDSTERS are calling residents claiming to be police officers or bankers in order to gain access to bank accounts, police have warned.

Multiple reports of fraudulent phone calls have been made to police in Ystradgynlais over the weekend.

A spokesman for the police said: "We have been dealing with an elderly victim of courier fraud.

"This starts with a phone call where the fraudsters claims to be a police officer or bank official.

"They say there is an issue with the victim's bank account.

"If in any doubt do not give details out and terminate the call."

Following the initial report there were further complaints in the area.

A spokesman added: "We have had further reports of someone claiming to be ringing from BT and becoming abusive when challenged.

"Please do not hand any details out over the phone. If in doubt hang up."
