PLANS have been submitted to allow a new production warehouse and ice cream parlour to be built in Capel Hendre.

The proposals, submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council, would allow Frank's Ice Cream to build the new retail area in Capel Hendre Industrial Estate.

Plans state that: "The development will create a designated area for new product development where new flavours and recipes can be trialled prior o being produced on a larger scale."

As it stands, when trialling new products at the main factory, regular production needs to be stopped for a whole morning.

Approval would also allow one graduate level job to be created from the Food Business School at Cardiff University.

Included in the plans are additional visitor parking areas for seven cars, one of which will be a disabled space, for cycle parking and for bin stores.

A planning statement attached to the application says "that the proposed development is fundamentally sound in principle and represents an appropriate scheme, which makes effective use of a sustainably located site."

The statement argues that the proposals will support economic growth in Carmarthenshire, complies with the strategic aims of the local development plan, will provide safe means of access and parking, and would be located in clos proximity to other facilities and services in Capel Hendre.

The plans were submitted to the council on January 6.
