AMMAN Valley residents will get the chance to partake in a new, more leisurely sporting experience, as walking football sessions are set to launch across Carmarthenshire.

Three new weekly sessions will be launching across the county this week.

Walking football is ideal for those who are looking to stay fit and healthy, reduce stress, build self-esteem and boost confidence.

The sessions are being launched by the Actif Communities team and Carmarthenshire County Council, with the support of Sport Wales.

As the name suggests, walking football is an adapted version of the traditional sport where players walk instead of running or sprinting.

Games are played between small sides made up of five to six players on each team.

The shorter games are non-contact, and help to reduce the risk of injury.

Walking football is accessible to all people regardless of their age, fitness level or footballing ability.

A spokesman for Actif Carmarthenshire said: "Not only are there lots of health benefits, walking football can be the perfect opportunity for those looking to make new friends, have fun and try something new.

"These sessions can support players wanting to get back into football after giving up the sport due to health, age or injuries."

Sessions at Amman Valley Leisure Centre, in Ammanford, will being on Friday between 6pm and 7pm.

There will be a charge of £2 per person.
