A NEW micro-pub is hoping to overcome one of the final hurdles before being able to open in Totton.

The operators of 6 Barrels are planning on selling craft ales, lager, cider, wine, spirits, hot and soft drinks and bar snacks at the former Noo-Thai restaurant premises in Salisbury Road.

The new business venture is situated in a row of shops on Salisbury Road and will provide seating for around 40 people inside the premises with space for outside seating within a roped-off area to the front of the building.

Applicants K&S Trading1 Ltd have applied to New Forest District Council (NFDC) for a new premises licence for live music, recorded music, performance of dance and the supply of alcohol from noon to midnight every day, alongside late night refreshment from 11pm to midnight daily. The application states none of these activities would take place outside after 10pm.

The proposed opening hours for the venue are noon to midnight seven days a week.

Totton and Ealing Town Council objected to the application, stating the business should be given standard licensing hours of until 11pm on weekdays and Sundays.

A resident of nearby Stannington Crescent also objected. She said: "The serving of alcohol until midnight in a residential area is bound to cause some disorder in some people – it is well known that alcohol can predispose to disorderly conduct."

Members of NFDC's licensing committee will assess the application and provide a decision when they meet on Friday, October 25.
