Work is well underway on the new £4.3million Ysgol Rhys Prichard in Llandovery.

The primary school is relocating to the former Ysgol Pantycelyn secondary school site and will have an increased capacity of 240 pupils with an integrated Cylch Meithrin and separate play area.

It will accommodate a large hall which can be shared with the community, a rugby pitch, multi-use games area and hard and soft play areas.

Work is expected to be completed by Spring 2021.

The £4.3million investment has been funded equally between the council and the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools Initiative.

To date, around £280million has been invested in accommodation and facilities at schools across Carmarthenshire. It includes building ten new primary schools, 41 major refurbishments and extensions, plus work in 12 other schools.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for education, Cllr Glynog Davies said: “We are thrilled to be able to provide another high quality learning environment which will meet the needs of both pupils and teachers, in delivering the school’s vision and enhancing outcomes across a wide range of subject areas and skills.

"It will also offer excellent community facilities making the school a community hub for the town of Llandovery.”

Investment is continuing in a number of schools across the county with new schools planned for Ysgol Pum Heol, Pembrey CP, Ysgol Y Castell and Ysgol Gynradd Gorslas.
