A FUNDRAISING page has been set up for a dog who suffered a broken leg and shattered pelvis when he was run over by a car.

The dog, who was found by good samaritan, Romina Carassale, is currently being cared for at Stanley House Vets in Colne.

He ran out under the wheels of a car on Scotland Street in Nelson, on Saturday August 10.

The owners of the pooch, who Ms Carassale has named Stanley, after the vets, have not been identified and unless enough money is raised to pay for operations, Stanley will have to be put down.

Ms Carassale said: “He ran out and I saw him go under the car.

“There was nothing the driver could’ve done.

“I took him to the vets that night and Pendle Dogs in Need have said they will take over his care and place him with a foster carer.

“His back left leg is broken and his hip and pelvis bones are shattered.

“We set up the page so we can raise money to pay for his operations and originally only asked for £2,500 but have since upped it as it’s going to cost a lot more with after care.”

Manager of Pendle Dogs in Need, Sharon Ashley, said Stanley has had one operation already and he will be having another one soon.

She said: “He’s going in to one of our foster homes and will be there for a while until the owner comes forward or until we can find him an appropriate home.”

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Ms Carassale said: “As of yet, no one has come forward to claim ownership of this little dog.

“I spoke with the vets on Monday, and it’s not looking good.

“They will keep him on pain relief a little longer, to give the owners an opportunity to claim him and decide how they wish to proceed, otherwise he will most likely be put to sleep, as the cost to get him back on all fours will rack up a couple of thousand pounds.

“I’m hopeful that as a community we can come together and raise the funds to ensure he has a chance to live his life to the fullest.

“Please spare what you can and let’s see if we can save this little cutie together.”
