Identical twin sisters from Ammanford achieved identical grades in their A-level results.

Ysgol Dyffryn Aman pupils Cody and Esta Broadhurst were the top performers at their school both achieving 3A* and 1A grades each.

Cody achieved her 3A* in Chemistry, Biology and Welsh Bacc, with an A grade in Maths. Esta achieved her 3A* in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and an A grade in Welsh Bacc.

Headteacher Nerys Nicholas said: "This is a fantastic achievement and we wish both sisters the very best for the future.

"Cody moves on to Bath to study Biochemistry, and Esta travels to Queen Mary University of London to study medicine."

Cody told The Guardian: “I’ve been worrying over the summer about not getting the grades, so I was very shocked when I got my results.”

Esta added: “It will be weird not being with each other in university, but we are looking forward to it.”

Other schools from across the South Wales Guardian area also celebrated results day.

Pupils at Ysgol Maesydderwen are celebrating their A Level and BTEC results with some very good performances. Once again all Maesydderwen students who wished to continue their studies have secured a place at university.

The school’s Head teacher, Mr Grimes said: “I want to congratulate everyone on their achievements. It has been a fantastic morning and we are so immensely proud of all of our students. Today’s results are a culmination of the collective hard work of students, parents/carers and teachers over the last two years.

Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth headteacher. Mr Wyn Evans said: “These results reflect the hard work of students, parents and staff alike.

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved and wish the students every success and happiness as they embark on the next step to the wider world.

Llandovery College Interim Warden, Anna Sandford, said: “I am incredibly proud of our pupils’ A Level and BTEC results.

“We have recorded our highest level of A*- B grades since 2013 at a time when top grades have dipped across the UK.

“This success is due to our unique approach which provides a bespoke education catering for the needs of every individual child. Many congratulations to all our pupils and staff.”
