A NEW foot clinic is heading to Ammanford as plans for the facility have been approved by Carmarthenshire County Council.

An application was handed in to the local authority seeking permission to establish a podiatry clinic in the town.

It was approved by a planning officer last month.

The clinic will be established in High Street, in a currently vacant unit.

In the planning application for the clinic, applicant Rebekah Robertson said the new facility would prove an invaluable service to residents in Ammanford and the surrounding area.

She added: "Myself and my business partner wish to establish a podiatry clinic covering all aspects of foot health.

"This would bring an invaluable service to the town and surrounding areas, the nearest services being located in Carmarthen and Llanelli.

"It will also bring employment opportunities and increased footfall to the town centre.

"It will comprise of a clinic on the first floor with a waiting area and retail element on the ground floor.

"We have spoken with local residents and businesses who are very supportive of the service we wish to provide."

The plans predict that the new foot clinic would create two part-time jobs.

The premises earmarked for the clinic have been vacant since December last year, having previously been used as office and retail space.

Plans for the clinic were submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council on May 20.

They were approved by a planning officer on July 15.
