Carmarthenshire has so much to offer from Carmarthen Bay in the South to the Western Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains in the North.

Travel over breath-taking mountains, through lush, green landscapes and secluded, ancient forests to the vast expanses of our golden sandy beaches.

Here’s a guide to things to do this summer.

The Gwili Railway

South Wales Guardian:

The Gwili Railway will be open for business seven days a week in July and August with a mix of steam and diesel services.

If you are a fan of steam locomotives, steam services run Monday-Friday and Sundays during summer.

The new miniature railway will be reopened for summer and available at our Llwyfan Cerrig Station area.

Saturday evenings will also feature the Gwili Fryer Fish and Chip and Real Ale dining aboard the Diesel Railcar on July 27, August 3, 10 and 17.

Check the website and Facebook pages for tickets and up-to-date service information.

The National Wool Museum

South Wales Guardian:

Housed in the former Cambrian Mills, the National Wool Museum explores the mighty industry that produced clothing, shawls and blankets that were sold across Wales and the world.

You can follow the story from fleece to fabric with a free self-guided trail, where you can try your hand at some traditional techniques such as carding and spinning by hand.

Take a walk out into the Natural Dye Garden, an official Green Flag space where you can see a selection of plants specially grown for their ability to colour fabric, or pick up a Village Trail and take a short walking tour of Drefach Velindre.

This July the Museum is playing host to some rotten rogues with a new exhibition Pirates: The Truth Behind the Tales. Come in to find out more about a pirate’s life and have fun following the free pirate rat trail (July 20 – August 31).

Brynaman Public Hall Cinema

South Wales Guardian:

Brynaman Public Hall Cinema is a landmark in the Amman Valley and has served generations of residents since 1926.

The Hall is an emblem of a bygone era when mining flourished in the area and miners contributed a penny from their wages to fund community facilities.

The hall houses an almost perfectly preserved art deco auditorium complete with many of the original fittings. The original wooden paybox has also been preserved and is still in full use today.

Today, Brynamman Public Hall continues to grow and has kept up with all the changes the film industry has made over the years, most recently being the transformation to digital projection.
