Llannon Councillor Dot Jones and local Assembly Member Lee Waters have worked together to tackle anti-social behaviour in Cross Hands.

Working with the police, they have persuaded South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) to make changes to Cross Hands roundabout.

Residents and police have noticed an increase in anti-social behaviour, originating in the seating area and underpass in the middle of Cross Hands roundabout.

Cllr Jones and Lee Waters were able to persuade the trunk road agency of the seriousness of the problem at a meeting a few weeks ago.

Now, after listening to residents concerns, SWTRA have now completed works with the goal of ending problem behaviour in the area.

A number of small changes have been made including cutting back undergrowth and bushes, and the removal of objects that can damaged or used to damage nearby property.

Taken together, there will be a positive impact on the atmosphere and environment of the area.

Cllr Dot Jones said: “I’ve been working closely with the local police and Llannon Community Council on this issue and I am pleased to be able to work with Lee, who was quick to act.

"It was great to get everyone together at the meeting and agree the actions to make the underpass a friendlier environment to be in.”

“I’m delighted SWTRA listened to our concerns and steps have been taken so quickly.”

“Whilst there are still on-going issues of anti-social behaviour in the area, the local police are working hard to patrol on a regular basis and I’ll continue to work with them to monitor the situation.”

Lee Waters AM said: “I was pleased to be able to support Dot in her campaign to end anti-social behaviour in Cross Hands.

"By getting all the right people together to talk about the problem, it became clear that there were some quick and easy fixes that would help the situation.”

“I’m glad that this will mean that residents are able to use the underpass without feeling intimidated and threatened.”
