AN AMMANFORD man has been nominated for an award in recognition of his volunteering work in football.

Sion Thomas 19, of Ammanford has recently been nominated for the FAW Grassroots Volunteer of the year.

Sion, a former pupil from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman has been shortlisted for the award for his work in the development of the new learning disability football section at Ammanford AFC.

He has led the training sessions and organised participation in the West Wales Pan Disability Football League Festivals.

The section started in January 2019 and since then, has 10 new members regularly training.

A club spokesman said: "As a 19 year old, Sion shows great maturity in his organisation and development . It's refreshing to see a young person giving so much to grassroots football."

Sion is also a Platinum Ambassador for YACymru who inspire a generation to have a lifetime enjoyment of sport.
