The A40 trunk road in Llandovery will be closed on two separate days to carry out essential road works.

The road will be closed from 7am until 6pm this Sunday, June 30 and 7am until 6pm on Sunday, July 14 for resurfacing works.

There will be no closure on Sunday, July 7 in consideration of Llandovery Motorbike Weekend.

Llandovery Councillor Handel Davies said: “Tarmac was ripped up and is being replaced due to the renovation works to the Bawddwr culvert." 

“The work is causing inconvenience but hopefully it will be completed over the two days, weather permitting.”

South Wales Road Trunk Agency has issued a notice to motorists explaining designated diversions.

The notice from South Wales Road Trunk Agency reads: “To alleviate the potential risk of a repeat of the traffic problems and illegal manoeuvres experienced in Llandovery town on Sunday, June 23, drivers are reminded that the A40 trunk road will be closed for through traffic from 7am until 6pm on Sunday, June 30 and Sunday, July 14.

“All local roads will be open and accessible as normal therefore it is advisable to plan your route sensibly in advance to avoid travelling through the town.

“A40 road closure signage is provided at Brecon, Senybridge and Trecastle to advise traffic intending to travel along the A40 to Llandovery of the officially designated diversion route from Brecon via A470 to Builth Wells and via A483 Llandovery.

“Any traffic attempting to enter the town from the A40 from the East will be prevented from doing so and will be re-directed back towards the officially designated diversion along the designated diversion routes i.e Brecon via A470 – Builth Wells via A483 – Llandovery.

“Please not there will be no related road closures on Sunday, July 7 in consideration of Llandovery Motorbike Weekend.

“Access to the main Castle Car Park will be maintained at all times albeit there will be occasions when only one access/exit point is available.

“SWTRA would like to thank local residents for their cooperation and understanding during this period of essential works.”
