CWMTRWCH schoolgirl Mari Morgan Jones recently came second in the Year 6 and under Harp Competition at the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Cardiff.

It was the first time the school had had an individual pupil competitor on stage at the competition.

The final was on the main stage at the Wales Millennium Centre.

To get to the final, 10-year-old Mari had to win through school and county level as well as the National preliminary final where 17 fellow county winners competed for the three final spots on stage.

The final was televised live on S4C where Mari was awarded the silver medal.

Mari has been playing the harp for three years and she also plays the flute in which she also competed in Cardiff.

She looks forward to the challenge of trying to qualify for the finals again next year.
