THE route for the final stage of the 2019 OVO Energy Women’s Tour of Britain cycle race, which will pass through Ammanford and Llandeilo, has been announced.

The sixth and final stage of the 2019 race will be held exclusively in Carmarthenshire on June 15.

The decision to bring the Women’s Tour to the county was made after the success of the visit of last year’s Men’s race, which took in Llandeilo and Llandovery on its way to Newport.

This will be the first time the OVO Energy Women’s Tour has visited Carmarthenshire, with the county set to welcome more than 100 of the world’s top professional cyclists for the finishing leg of Britain’s leading professional cycle race.

Stage six of the race will start at Carmarthen Park and end where the men’s stage started last year, at Pembrey Country Park.

Along it’s route, the peloton will pass through Carmarthen, Nantgaredig, Brechfa, Abergorlech, Talley and Llandeilo.

It will then continue through Ffairfach, Bethlehem, Brecon Beacons NAtional Park, Upper Brynamman, Garnant and Ammanford.

From then on it will move down through Penygroes, Gorslas and Cefneithin, and onto Pontyberem, Carway, Trimsaran and Pinged, before finishing in Pembrey.

A spokesman for Carmarthenshire County Council said: “Some of the best female riders in the world including Olympic, and World champions, as well as the best British riders and stars of the future will be riding through our beautiful county and making the most of two of our national cycling facilities – our historic velodrome in Carmarthen, and our new National Closed Road Cycling Circuit in Pembrey Country Park.”

The 79 miles that separate the start in Carmarthen Park and the finish at Pembrey Country Park are anything but flat. The stage will approximately feature 1,800 metres of ascent, making it the second toughest in OVO Energy Women’s Tour history.

There are also plenty of opportunities for local businesses, communities and individuals to get involved.
