An inspirational schoolgirl has nearly completed eight walks totalling over 60 miles for a charity which supports her dad.

Ellie Lewis, from Hendy, has climbed Pen Y Fan once a month since January along with her mum Rhian and uncle Adam Richards to raise funds for The Better Life Appeal for Cystic Fibrosis, a charity which is helping her dad Mark.

Ellie, 10, said: “My Dadi has Cystic Fibrosis and this makes his chest bad and he needs a lot of antibiotics mostly through a line they put in his arm.

“Sometimes Dadi has to go to the Cystic Fibrosis unit in Llandough Hospital when he's really bad.

“I get to go see him all the time and the doctors and nurses are really nice.

“There are only seven beds in the unit and sometimes patients have to wait to go there and some patients are in there for a few weeks or a few months.

“The Better Life Appeal for Cystic Fibrosis are raising money to build a bigger CF unit - more beds for patients who are bad, and they want to make it feel more like home for patients and families who are in there for a long time.

“The team in Llandough are always giving Dadi new things, medications and different equipment which cost a lot of money.

“They keep Dadi well to carry on doing things with me, Amily and Mami.”

Ellie has already raised £5,500 and picked up the Terry Price Young Achievers Award recently.

To continue to raise money and awareness of Cystic Fibrosis, Ellie along with her mum and uncle with climb Pen Y Fan again next month before taking on Snowdon on July 14.

In August, the trio will face the SAS training event ‘The Fan Dance’ and in September, uncle Adam will trek 1,000,000 meters in a single month on foot – which on average is 21 miles every day.

“I want to help raise money for Cystic Fibrosis so they can carry on looking after Dadi and all the other people with Cystic Fibrosis, so if anyone would like to sponsor me, I would be very grateful,” added Ellie.

The Ysgol Hendy pupil has been selected to speak at a conference in Cardiff with some keynote speakers including Tracy Schmitt and Xavier Rush and appeared on S4C Heno.

Ellie has also received support from well known names such as Boy George, Lorraine Kelly and Sam Warburton.
