A WASTE amnesty is being held for householders living in Llandovery and the surrounding area.

It is being held at the Llandovery mart site on Saturday, May 4 between 8am and 12noon.

Most household waste can be taken along including unwanted furniture, carpets and mattresses, electrical items such as fridge-freezers and televisions and garden waste.

A maximum of four car tyres can also be disposed of; however, tractor or lorry tyres will not be accepted

Hazardous waste such as paint, fluorescent tubes, batteries, chemicals, gas bottles and asbestos will not be accepted along with glass, trade waste, construction waste and agricultural waste.

Residents should also bring proof of address such as a council tax or utility bill.

Waste amnesties are held throughout the year in Llandovery, Llanybydder and Newcastle Emlyn to help people who do not live near a household waste recycling centre to dispose of their waste.

Executive Board Member for Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people to recycle their unwanted waste. We also hope the waste amnesties will help to reduce fly-tipping.”
