A CHARITY set up in honour of a man who lost his battle to cancer has raised over £27,000.

Andrew Davies, a camera person, fun character and a very popular gentleman, died of cancer in 2016.

He was originally from Llanpumsaint but lived most recently with his family in Ammanford.

His family and friends decided to start a charity and a fund, in order to help others in a similar situation.

Cronfa Andrew Pwmps was set up with a hope to provide financial support to individuals who work in the creative industry and need financial support after receiving diagnosis of serious illness.

Quite often sufferers can’t work during treatment and face financial difficulties, the hope is that this Fund will be able to help.

Every year since the charity was set up, money that had not been distributed to such a cause was shared between Macmillan Cancer Support and Tŷ Bryngwyn Hospice in Llanelli.

Over £27,000 has been raised to help those suffering and to the named charities over the last three years.

All manner of events have been held over the years, including a concert with broadcaster Huw Edwards, and members of the charity wish to thank everyone for their support and generosity.

A spokesperson for Andrew’s family said: “The intention from the beginning was to run the official charity for three years.

“On February 1 this year, it was decided to bring the registered charity side of the Fund to an end.”

Family and friends will hold an annual event in the name of Cronfa Andrew Pwmps, in his memory and in order to raise money for Macmillan and Tŷ Bryngwyn, Llanelli.

A spokesperson for the charity added: “A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us.

“We have held a variety of different fundraising events over the last three years which has helped us raise £27,000”

A cheque for £900 each was donated to Tŷ Bryngwyn, Old Mill in Llandybie; and Macmillan Cancer Support recently at a presentation held at The Cottage Inn, Llandeilo.

These charities were of immense help to Andrew and his family.
