A new housing development have been approved in Tycroes.

The planning permission granted by Carmarthenshire County Council means that work can now start on a 27-home development on land north of Tycroes Rugby Club.

All of the properties on the site will be single storey bungalows, with four two-bed homes and 23 three-bed homes.

As part of the approval, work will be carried out on the junction between Tycroes Road and Ffordd Y Deri, through which the site and new homes will be accessed.

There had been a number of objections to the plans from local residents, particularly those living in Ffordd Y Deri.

Those opposed to the new development highlighted concerns about access to the site, disruption from noise, the loss of trees, and the impact on wildlife in the area.

They also raised fears about a loss of privacy for homes in Fford Y Deri, with the properties in the new development being built on an incline.

Speaking for the residents at the planning meeting last week, Councillor Tina Higgins said: “I am here today to voice not just my concerns but those of the residents as well.

“I am concerned about the risk of flooding in this area where there have been problems in the past.

“Access is also a major concern to residents, and they are particularly concerned about the reduction in width of Tycroes Road, as many do not have access to off road parking and are reliant on street parking outside of their properties. There has already been a number of near misses at the junction and it is dangerous as it is.

“The ecological report submitted says that a badgers set was located 3kms away from the site, but it is every night that people see badgers in their gardens in this area so I wonder if there is something closer than that.”

Despite the objections, the development was recommended for approval by Carmarthenshire County Council’s planning officer, and councillors followed the recommendation, approving the building of the new homes unanimously.
