Two friends are set to climb Pen Y Fan five times in one day to thank a charity who helped them be with their friend one last time.

Ray Thompson, from Glanaman, and Matthew Peters, from Neath, have decided to take part in a brave fundraising event in memory of their close friend Simon Jones who died last year.

Simon, from Llanelli, was involved in a road traffic collision on the M4 motorway on Monday, July 9.

Ray told The Guardian: “We have chosen to do the fundraising event in aid of Wales Air Ambulance because they were the ones who got Simon to the hospital in time for us to see him one last time and to say goodbye.

“For that we owe a huge gratitude to Wales Air Ambulance and the work they do.

“As a big thank you and for us to honour the work that they are doing, me and Matt have decided to raise money for their cause.”

The event will be on the Thursday, March 28 which would have been Simon’s 24th birthday.

The duo both met Simon during their time in college.

Ray and Matt, both 24, will be aiming to climb Pen y Fan five times in one day, wearing manikins.

All money raised will be sent to the Wales Air ambulance.

“I’m sure that Simon will be looking down and laughing at us doing this,” added Ray.

“So far we have raised £455 plus a further £100 offline donations raised so far.

“We hope to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity.

“Thank you everyone who has donated and shared so far it means so much.”
