A self-funded mental health support group based in the Amman Valley has received a cash boost from several organisations which will help them continue their hard work.

Shadows Depression Support Group was set up by Louise Craik in January 2017 and provides one-to-one peer support and group talking therapy.

The group received a £1000 cheque from the town council which was presented to members at Shadows Group therapy at AFC Hut in Cwmmaman Park on February 25 by Cwmaman Mayor and Mayoress Dayfydd and Mair Wyn.

Shadows manager Louise Craik said: “We are very grateful to our town council, Glanaman and Garnant county councillors and the local community development officer who have all supported us from day one.

“We would also like to thank the staff at Ammanford police station for their very kind donation of £100 which they raised internally and nominated Shadows to receive this very kind donation

“We would also like to thank Valero and Altrad staff who organised a rugby trip and raised £110 for our group.

“We can’t express how much this means to us as we are a self-funding voluntary organisation who raise funds through organising fundraising events ourselves in the local area, so we do appreciate these very kind donations.

“It makes such a difference.”

The money will go towards purchasing more resources and providing further therapies for members.

Louise added: “We believe Shadows to be a unique mental health support group which does not require any referrals.

“It is run by voluntary staff who have full time jobs but dedicate much of their spare time to Shadows and are very passionate about promoting mental health awareness and supporting people with mental health difficulties.”

Shadows support anyone who may be experiencing Mental Health Difficulties and families and friends of anyone experiencing these difficulties.
