It was business as usual at Ammanford Fair Trade Town Group's annual Giant Banana Split on Friday evening despite the bad weather.

The Fairtrade Feast was delivered as normal as Fairtrade bananas donated by the Co-op and ice cream given by local company Franks were placed into 40 metres of foil-covered guttering loaned by local building company LBS.

Fair Trade Town Group member Phil Broadhurst said: "We had planned to use the Piazza area for children’s art activities and for a Comic Relief Red Nose Day Stall, but we ended up all cwtshing up in the Arcade, and, as always, it was a really uplifting fun event enjoyed by all.

“It was great to see everyone come, running through the rain, into the arcade.

“We were also pleased that Coaltown kept their espresso bar open late specially to join in the fun."

As well as the Banana Split, children were able to dress up in banana costumes and make their own Fairtrade Friends at a craft stall run by Bethan Havard from Oxfam.

Volunteers from Ammanford Church and Gellimanwydd Chapel work together every year with the Fair Trade Town Group in order to promote Fair Trade and celebrate Ammanford's status as a Fair Trade Town.
