Ammanford's annual Giant Fairtrade Banana Split will return this Friday, March 8.

The mega split will again stretch the full length of Ammanford's College Street Arcade.

Fairtrade bananas donated by the town's Coop store and ice cream from local award-winning ice cream company Frank's will be placed in foiled covered guttering loaned by LBS.

Volunteers from Ammanford Church, Gellimanwydd Chapel and Ammanford Fair Trade Town Group have come together every year since 2008 to make the event the highlight of the town's Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations.

This year there will also be art activities and a Comic Relief Red Nose stall from 5.30pm with the Banana Split ready to eat from 6pm.

Ammanford became the First Fair Trade Town in Wales back in 2002 and has maintained its status ever since due to the commitment of shops and cafes in the town providing Fairtrade options, schools learning about and promoting Fairtrade, and politicians and community members supporting Fairtrade solutions to bring about a fairer deal for the people around the world who make and grow the products we buy.
