A lifesaving training session organised by Ammanford Town Council was held at Nantlais Hall last week with the help of Cariad, a registered charity that was set up by Mrs Sherilyn Hamilton-Shaw to raise the necessary funding to provide local schools and communities with defibrillators and lifesaving training.

Every week Cariad provides more defibrillators into schools and communities with Free Basic Life Support and Defibrillator training available to all.

Six defibrillators are set to be installed around the Ammanford area and residents took part in the training session last Tuesday.

To date the charity has supplied over 900 defibrillators to schools, communities and CFR teams.

Cariad continues to grow working closely with the Welsh Ambulance Service and CFR (Community First Responder) teams across Wales.

A spokesperson for Cariad said: “We believe this will be vital in our aim to reduce the number of people dying from cardiac arrest in Wales.

“8000 people every year suffer a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital environment in Wales.

“At present the survival rate is just three per cent”.

If you would like Cariad to attend your school, community, business and organisation to provide free basic life support and defibrillator awareness then please contact sheri@mycariad.org.
