Come and celebrate St David’s Day in Ammanford this week.

Following the success of last year’s event, Menter Bro Dinefwr are organising a parade on Monday, March 4 starting at Ammanford Park before heading to the bottom of Quay Street where there will be a Street Show.

Local schools will be getting involved with children dressed in National Costume.

The procession will leave the park at 10am and will make their way to Quay Street where Jac y Do will be waiting to begin a Twmpath (Traditional Welsh Folk Dancing) with the children.

There will be various artists and schools taking part throughout the morning until 12noon.

Ysgol Y Bedol will be performing at 10.30am followed by Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman at 10.40am. Tenor Osian Clarke from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman will then take to the stage at at 11am.

Jac y Do will take to the stage once again at 11.30am to bring the event to a close at 12.00pm.

As well the live entertainment local businesses can get involved with the celebrations by entering the annual Window Display Competition.

A Menter Bro Dinefwr spokesperson said: “To raise awareness of this special day we would like to invite the local businesses to join us in the celebrations by participating in the decorate your shop window in the theme of St David’s’ competition.

“There will be a special prize for the winner.”

For those eager to get into the St David’s Day spirit, Carmarthenshire Theatre’s are hosting a St David’s Day Concert at Ammanford Miners Theatre this Friday, March 1.

Sharing the stage will be ever popular Côr Meibion Dyffryn Aman, Osian Clarke, Neve Summers, Catrin Soons and Joseph Cavalli-Price.

Côr Meibion Dyffryn Aman was established in 1990 by their current musical director Ian Llewelyn. The current membership is 45 drawing choristers from the many towns and villages of the Amman Valley. The choir has performed an impressive 270 concerts many for charity fundraising.
