Llandovery’s much-loved youth and community centre has been presented with a cheque for £500 by a Writers Group that meet there.

In November last year, Llandovery Writers Group published The Turnings of the Years, a collection of short stories and verse by members and friends.

The book, which has been well received with great reviews, is selling well and all the profits are going to the community centre.

Llandovery Youth and Community Centre is used regularly by local associations, Citizens' Advice and community groups, including the Writers Group.

The centre is a place for children to meet after school hours, to learn new skills and to play games.

Among the children are some with special needs. Staff dedicate time to support them, giving their parents brief well-earned rests, encouragement and advice.

At a ceremony on January 30, the first proceeds - a cheque for £500 - was presented to the centre's manager Jill Tatman.

Group leader, David Thorpe, said: "We are delighted to support the community centre with extra funds.

“Our writers include teenagers and pensioners, published and newbie authors and it's been a lovely project giving confidence to everyone."

Jill added: "Extra money enables us to do more and we value this contribution very much. “It's an example of the fantastic support we get from our local community.

“I've been amazed at the interest in these super stories which are surprisingly popular and the copies I have in the community centre are selling fast."

The paperback priced £9 is available at the centre.

All the income from every copy sold from now on will be handed over to the centre.
