Mr B W A Mathias

BRIAN William Arthur Mathias passed away on January 3, aged 69 years at Withybush Hospital. A native of Milford Haven, Brian worked for Devereux Outfitters in Haverfordwest then Millers Radio in Charles Street, Milford Haven. Brian then became his elderly mother’s carer before working for CP Plus as a parking attendant in Morrisons Car Park until 2013. Brian had been ill for a number of years, suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. Brian loved his music and enjoyed gardening, as well as spending time with his family.

Family left to mourn are: Norman and Joyce Mathias (brother and sister-in-law), Lawrence and Anju Mathias (nephew and wife); Nick Mathias (nephew); Nadine and David Manuel (niece and husband); Barry and Adele Mathias (nephew and wife); Beverley Mathias and Andrew Ayres (niece and partner); Adrian and Kelly Mathias (nephew and partner); Shaun, Andrew, Aaron, Solly, Laurie, John, Gethin, Max, Joel, Charlie and Freddie (great nephews); Tamsin, Sian, Bethan, Ceri, Alys, Carrie, Teleri and Lily (great nieces); Kaleib, Parker and Colby (great, great nephews); Esme (great, great niece).

The funeral service took place at Hamilton Court Funeral Home on Thursday, January 10 followed by interment at Thornton and was officiated by Rev. Paul Davies.

The bearers were: Mr Lawrence Mathias, Mr Nicholas Mathias, Mr Barry Mathias and Mr Adrian Mathias.

Principal mourners were: Norman and Joyce Mathias (brother and sister-in-law) Lawrence; Nick and Anne; Barry and Adele; Nadine; Beverley and Andrew; Adrian and Kelly; Sian, Bethan and Solly.

There were family floral tributes.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing & Sons of Milford Haven.

Cwmbran

Formerly Wolfscastle

GLYN Vaughan formerly of West Ford, Wolfscastle, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2018

Born on July 12, 1924, at Ivy House, Wolfscastle, to Albert and Hannah Vaughan, Glyn was one of seven, being the first born son.

Glyn and his late wife Gladys (nee Jenkins) made their home in Cwmbran and were proud parents to Patricia, Robert and Huw.

Glyn was buried in Cwmbran, Newport.

Mr G Bryant

Steynton

MR GARETH Bryant, of 60 Bunkers Hill, Steynton, died at home on January 8. He was 63.

Mr Bryant’s working life including a career with the police force and Westec. He spent the past 25 years working at Consort.

His main hobbies included golf and rugby, particularly Neyland RFC, for whom he played in his younger years. He continued to follow the club from the sidelines after giving up the game.

His other interests included music, holidays in Spain and enjoying short breaks.

He leaves to mourn his partner Chris, brother David and his partner Ann, cousins Vivian, Philys and John, Rachael, Simon and Claire, Elaine and family, Keith and Joyce, Jane and Neil, Stephen and Rachael, Robert and Sue, and Ben and Robyn.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn crematorium, Narberth, on Tuesday, January 22. Mr Martyn Evans officiated the service.

The bearers were Frank Rimmer, Chris Pettit, Alan King, Ed Spanky, Adrian Reynolds and Jodie Robertson.

The principal mourners were Chris, David and Ann, Keith and Joyce, Jane and Neil, Robyn and Ben, Stephen and Rachael, and Robert and Sue.

Mrs J E James

nee Webb

Newport

MRS Joyce Elizabeth James, of Parrog Road, Newport, passed away peacefully with her children at her bedside at Withybush Hospital on Saturday December 1, aged 85 years.

Joyce was born at Llwyngwair Lodge, Newport in February 1933. She spent all her childhood around Newport and Nevern where she went to school. After leaving school she went to work in Newport where she met her future husband, the late William G James.

They married in 1949 and had five children: Barbara, Margaret, Brian, Peter and Myra.

They had 64 years of happy married life together.

After having a massive stroke five years ago, she was looked after at home by Myra, the other children and her in-laws, with the help of Newport District Nurses, Paul Sartori and Crossroads.

The funeral service was held at Nevern Church followed by interment at Nevern Church Cemetery.

The service was conducted by Rev Neil Llewellyn. The bearers were her grandchildren: Andrew Griffiths, Gareth Thomas, Paul James and Joe Thomas.

Principal mourners were her children: Myra, Barbara & Ken, Margaret & John, Brian & Janet, Peter & Janet and her grandchildren. Also her sister Margaret & Gwyn Thomas, brother David & Christine Webb and sister-in-law Dawn Webb.

Also nieces and nephews and other family members too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend was her grandson Mark and family who live in Australia, her sister Dilys Grigg and her sister-in-law Megan Lewis.

There were family flowers only from the children, grandchildren, Margaret & Gwyn Thomas, David & Christine Webb.

Donations in lieu of flowers for Newport District Nurses or Paul Sartori Foundation, received by Paul Jenkins & Sons Funeral Directors, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs N E Kirk

Johnston

MRS Nesta Elaine Kirk, of 4 Brickhurst Park, Johnston, died at home on January 9. She was 71.

Nesta was a familiar face to many, having served behind the counter at numerous outlets, including sub Post Offices, department stores, surplus stores and shoe shops from Glamorgan, Wiltshire, Morayshire and finally Pembrokeshire during her working life.

She was last employed at Clarks shoe shop in Haverfordwest.

Her main interests included history, art, religion and poetry.

She was also interested in counselling and Indian head massage, holding qualifications in both subjects.

She leaves to mourn her husband Anthony, sons Raymond and Rodney, daughters-in-law Julie and Lindy, and grandsons Alex and Joel.

The funeral service was held at St Justinian’s Church, Freystrop, of Friday, January 25. Rev Marcus Zipperlen officiated.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Skanda Vale Hospice, llandysul, Carmarthenshire, or Macmillan Cancer Support.
