WRU Division 1 West Central

Tondu – 19

Ammanford – 29

AMMANFORD made it successive victories in the league as they picked up an impressive win on the road at Tondu.

Scores from Steff Roberts, Ceri Rees, Sion Williams and Ryan Williams gave the visitors a 29-19 bonus point triumph.

Ammanford centre, Ceri Rees, was travelling to Tondu to play his last game of the season before he starts his six month trip to New Zealand.

He was looking to finish the season with a win and help secure their position in Division 1.

Ammanford started well and after some strong forward carries the ball was moved wide for wing Steff Howells to burst through and feed full back Steff Roberts to score and add the two extras.

Some sloppy works in defence by the visitors allowed Tondu kick for the corner and score from a catch and drive lineout and so level the scores, 7-7.

When the game was played at speed Ammanford looked the better side and this eventually paid off when a half break by centre Paul Davies was fed to fellow centre Rees who took the ball at pace and scampered over under the posts.

Ammanford remained on the front foot and eventually got their third try from a catch and drive line out with second row Sion Williams getting his second try in as many weeks.

Tondu, however, finished the half positively and reduced the deficit to 12-19 when a flowing move from inside their half was finished by the home winger in the corner.

The second half was a very even game with Tondu making some positive substitutions.

There were only two scores in the half, one each.

Ammanford stretched their lead when Howells came off his wing to hit the outside shoulder of out half Ryan Williams to accelerate through and score.

Roberts added the extras. This was soon followed by a Roberts penalty to open up a ten-point lead.

Tondu turned up the pressure and controlled the last quarter of the game. Strong defence led by back rowers Steff Rees and Jake Guerin limited the home side to one try.

Ammanford left Tondu with a 19-29 victory.
