To help her members re-focus after Christmas and not be tempted by all the left over goodies, WW wellness coach (previously Weight Watchers) Paula Griffiths decided to hold a food amnesty.

When she discussed with her members in her WW studios in Ammanford, Llandybie and Carmarthen who should receive the donations, it transpired that one of her members used to work in the local women’s refuge centres and the decision was made.

Paula said: “Once we had decided on the refuge it opened up a conversation about what other items were needed.

“These women and children usually turn up with nothing so items like toiletries, clothes and nappies are gratefully received.

“Another of my members, Ann Benjamin, who volunteers in the Llanelli Soup Kitchen, mentioned that warm coats and sturdy shoe donations would make a difference to the homeless at this time of year.

“Once again, my members were so generous.

“They willingly donated their goodies left over from Christmas, shoes, coats and clothes.

“In addition, they bought new items and toiletries to donate too.

“It ended up that I had two car loads of items for the homeless in Llanelli and bags and bags for the women’s refuge. It felt really good to give something back to our community.

“Giving things back to the local community definitely helps with feeling grateful.”
