A man has admitted assaulting his then partner in the car park of Garnant Golf Club.
Karl Jones, aged 31, appeared at Swansea crown court to stand trial.
But at the last moment Jones, of Derwen Avenue, Gwaun Cae Gurwen, admitted assaulting Bethan Louise Thomas during an incident on May 5 last year.
Judge Paul Thomas said that "given the injuries" to Miss Thomas it was "a sensible plea."
"It was an ugly incident. The defendant seems to have some sort of problem with drink or anger," he added.
Jones' barrister, Helen Randall, said it was his case that Miss Thomas had shoved or head butted him first but Jones now admitted "going over the top" in his response.
Judge Thomas said the offending called for a prison sentence, but not necessarily an immediate one.
Jones will be sentenced on February 1 and was granted bail meanwhile.
