WREATHS were laid at a service at the Garden of Remembrance on Friday to two Penarth men who were awarded Victoria Crosses posthumously after dying in the First World War.
Captain Richard Wain was killed at the age of 20 during the Battle of Cambrai on November 20, 1917 while leading a section of tanks in action, while Sergeant Samuel Pearse was 22 when he was killed on August 29, 1919 while taking over an enemy blockhouse in Northern Russia.
Memorial stones were unveiled for both men during the ceremony.
