A TYCROES youngster is looking for sponsorship to help him continue his triathlon career after winning events in Carmarthen and Ammanford.

James Oulsnam, 16, recently came first in his category, youth male, at the Carmarthen Sprint Triathlon.

James completed the 400m swim in eight minutes and 24 seconds, the 23km bike ride in 47 minutes and 44 seconds, and the 5km run in 21 minutes and 50 seconds, giving an overall time of one hour, 19 minutes and 37 seconds.

He finished 28th overall out of a field of 155 competitors.

Earlier in the year, James also took first place in his category at the Ammanford Triathlon.

His mother, Patricia said she was proud of her son, who is hoping to pursue his triathlon dreams further.

She said: “He has been competing since he was eight-years-old. He has always been interested in the sport, particularly the cycling element.

“His ambition is to compete in triathlons professionally and hopefully he will be able to undertake the Ironman Wales competition when he is 18.”

The former Ysgol Dyffryn Aman pupil now studies at Coleg Sir Gar in Llanelli, where he is studying Sport and Excercise Science.

Following his acheivements, Coleg Sir Gar said: “We are proud of James’ success and delighted to support him through our Elite Performer Programme aimed at supporting high performance athletes while maximising our academic success.”

James is now looking for sponsorship to help him continue with his goals.
