Llandovery College pupils recently celebrated ‘Shwmae Su’mae’ (Hello, how are you) Day.
October 15 is the national day celebrating the Welsh language across the world and has as its motto ‘Mae’r Gymraeg yn perthyn i bawb' - 'The Welsh language belongs to everyone.’
This annual campaign promotes the idea of starting every conversation with ‘shwmae’, ‘su’mae’ or ‘shwdi.’
Pupils took advantage of the opportunity to have fun and promote the Welsh language across the college and the community of Llandovery.
The action packed day included quizzes, cookery classes baking Welsh cakes, traditional cawl served for lunch, literature placed in local shops and cafes providing the Welsh words for everyday items and selfie frames created to promote the Shwmae Su’mae message across social media.
By evening, the Shwmae Su’mae ogo was emblazoned across the front of the college building and Coleg Llanymddyfri was one of only five schools across Wales listed on the S4C weather map.
