Llandybie Post Office is back open for business at a new location.

Following the closure of the village’s former Post Office, previously situated on High Street, in November 2016, the service can now be found at Llandybie Memorial Hall.

The new Post Office opened its doors for the first time on August 20 and Trap resident Huw Morlais Rees was the first lucky customer.

Mr Rees said: “I came to Llandybie shopping every week and I use the Post Office once and sometimes twice a week.

“I missed it when it closed and the new Post Office is nice and I am going to continue to support the business.”

The former Post Office closed two years ago following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for post office use.

The news angered villagers who were forced to use a temporary mobile service at Llandybie Memorial Hall car park or travel to other villages to use their facilities, but now the facilities are back on their door step.

Ann Richards, trustee at Llandybie Memorial Hall, told The Guardian: “The Post Office at Llandybie Memorial Hall has been popular since the first day it opened so it shows how much the facility was missed in the community.

“The Post Office is a community project and we hope everyone continues to use our brand-new facility.

“There are three workers Mandy Wiltshire, Ian Coker and Eirlys Jones and the service is available from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9am until 1pm every Saturday.

“We have had a lot of support from the community and we received funding from Llandybie Community Council which was used to cover set up fees and to kit it all out.

Cllr Anthony Davies added: “Residents are grateful that a Post Office service is back present in the village and it shows that Llandybie hasn't been forgotten about.

"Up until now residents have had to use the facilities at Ammanford, Capel Hendre and Penygroes.”

There are plans for the Post Office to branch out into retail including cards and stationary in the future.
