A fire ripped through a building in the centre of Ystradgynlais yesterday evening.

Firefighters and police officers attended the scene and Commercial Street was cordoned off for several hours on June 26.

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that they were called to the fire involving an industrial unit, which was believed to be a blacksmith's in Heol Maes-y-Dre at 5.01pm.

She said four fire engines from Abercrave, Pontardawe, Morriston and Seven Sister, were in attendance and added that there no injuries reported.

Crowds gathered to watch the fire and firefighters tapped into local water sources to help tackle the flames.

An eyewitness told The Guardian: "You could see the smoke for miles."
