Ammanford Town Twinning Association has recently celebrated it’s 21st anniversary with it’s twin town, Breuillet in France, which is a small town situated an hour from Paris.

To celebrate this special anniversary visit, from May 10 until May 13, Ammanford Twinning Association organised a programme of events for the French guests.

A welcome reception was held with teas, coffee and cake for their arrival at the Pensioners’ Hall and an official welcome to the town by Mayor Colin Evans.

On Friday, May 11, a trip to Fishguard took place to view ‘The Last Invasion Tapestry’ at Fishguard library in the Town Hall.

Ammanford Indoor Bowls members invited the group to use their facilities on the Saturday morning and their volunteers provided expert support for bowling, which was enjoyed by all.

This was followed by a Charter Ceremony which renewed the agreement between the two towns with the Mayor of Breuillet Bernard Sprotti, President of Breuillet Association Carol Keleher, Chairperson of Ammanford Marian Morris, Ammanford Town Clerk Anette Bell, Councillor Wendy Mills–Lowe and Brian Davies, Treasurer, being present.

Ammanford were presented with an engraved bell, which is an emblem on their town crest to Commemorate the 21st anniversary of the friendship between the two towns from 1997 to 2018.

Ammanford presented Breuillet with a painting by local Artist Anthony Richards.

In the evening a fancy dress dinner-dance with Welsh and French characters was held at the Amman Centre along with a meal, celebratory cake and entertainment by local artistes.

Marian Morris was the Welsh, English compere and Brian Davies translated to French for all the events.

Local MP Jonathon Edwards along with his wife, Ammanford Clerk Anette Bell and Councillor Wendi Mills-Lowe were guests for the evening.

On the Sunday morning, the group bid a sad farewell to the French guests after a lively and enjoyable few days together.
