Organisers of an annual Ammanford charity fun day have raised over £10,000 by facing their biggest challenge to date.

The Guardian revealed last month that organisers of Super Fun Saturday had agreed to take part in the Welsh Three Peak Challenge to raise as much money as possible for six local charities; Grand Appeal children’s charity, Born on the Edge, Ammanford junior sports clubs fund, Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, Maggie’s Cancer Support and Swn Y Gwynt counselling service.

Super Fun Saturday is an annual charity event hosted by SFS in partnership with TRJ, CCTAL and Cyfle and has raised over £15,000 for charities over the last three years.

This year, organisers decided to take on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge with hope to smash last year’s fundraising total.

Around 40 participants battled up Snowdon at 4am on Saturday, June 3 followed by Cadair Idris and finally reached the bottom of Pen Y Fan by 8pm the same day.

SFS spokesperson Ryan Jones told The Guardian: “It was a brilliant day with plenty of community spirit and the challenge was completed in 16 hours.

“Members of the community including Jonathan Edwards MP and staff from the Guardian joined us at Pen Y Fan to give us a final push up the last peak.

“We have raised over £10,000 before our annual Super Fun Saturday event, charity bike ride and miners walk which will hopefully take our total to £20,000.

“I would like to thank to everyone who has donated so far and we are looking forward to seeing you at our main event next month.”

The fourth annual Super Fun Saturday will take place on Saturday, July 28 and will include the Ammanford v Pontarddulais cricket match as well as plenty of other activities which will entertain all the family.

The bike ride is also returning this year and 40 cyclists have already signed up to the challenge.

“If you would like to get involved in the bike ride, please contact SFS on 01269 597694 or call into our office to pick up a sponsor form” added Ryan.
