Police in Ammanford have thanked a doorman who stepped in and stopped a police officer from being seriously assaulted during a violent incident.

Dyfed-Powys Police PCs Richard Lewis and Rhys Howells, along with doorman Dale Wride, were all assaulted by a man and a woman as attempts were made to arrest them on Saturday, April 14.

The officers were on patrol in the town centre at around 2.45am, when they came across a confrontation in Wind Street, which Mr Wride had stepped in to intervene.

The officers quickly detained a 33-year-old woman, but on arrest her behaviour quickly escalated and became violent.

She kicked out at officers and bit one on the leg.

A 25-year-old man also became irate and grabbed an officer by the neck.

Mr Wride helped to get him under control and was also bitten during the struggle.

The pair were both arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police constable in the execution of their duty and taken to Ammanford custody.

The officers, along with Inspector Chris Neve and Sergeant Tom Grace, have since met with Mr Wride to thank him for his help.

PS Grace said: “We are very grateful to Dale for stepping in to assist in this violent confrontation.

“Both officers said that if it were not for his assistance, PC Lewis would have been seriously assaulted.

“This is not the first time Dale has helped police, and in his position as door staff supervisor we are always confident that he creates a safe environment for the people attending the venues he cares for.”

Both suspects have been released under investigation pending a file of evidence being reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service.
