Extra dates have been added to Hywel Dda University Health Board’s run of consultation events across the three counties it serves.

Its proposals to shake up heath services across mid and west Wales has been causing increasing concern with residents across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Petitions and protests have been started along with a call for more health board drop-in events in the area’s main towns.

A health board spokesman said: “Due to high demand we are pleased to confirm that the following seven additional venues and dates have been arranged, together with a virtual event, hosted on our Facebook page, for anyone who cannot attend in person and would like to speak with our clinicians."

The new dates are:

Monday, June 4 - Rhys Pritchard Memorial Hall, Llandovery

Monday June 11 - Penybanc Welfare Hall, Ammanford

Thursday June 14 - City Hall, St.David’s

Monday, June 18 - Tysul Hall, Llandysul

Tuesday, June 26 - Pembrokeshire Archives Building, Haverfordwest

Monday, July 2 - Victoria Hall, Lampeter

Thursday, July 5 - Pill Social Centre, Milford Haven

All consultations will take place between 2pm and 7pm.

The Facebook Virtual Event will take place on Wednesday, May 23 from 6pm until 8pm where an online question and answer session with a panel of clinicians will take place.

Chief executive Steve Moore said: “Our public drop-in events have been especially well attended so far and as a reflection of this I’m pleased to announce these new dates to ensure that as many people as possible can continue to get involved and talk to our doctors, nurses and therapists about their views.”

Executive medical director and director of clinical strategy, Dr Phil Kloer, added: “We’ve come up with three proposals that we think are safe, viable and offer an improvement on what we currently have, and we are presenting these to you, to listen and talk to you further and take on board your views and ides.”

In all three of the proposals, Bronglais District General Hospital will continue to provide services for mid Wales; a new major hospital will be built somewhere between Narberth and St Clears, and there will be 10 community hubs across the Health Board area.

All three include the downgrading of Withybush Hospital, downgrading Glangwili or turning it into a planned care facility, with the loss of accident and emergency services at both sites.
