The oldest member of Ammanford’s Nantlais coffee club has celebrated a landmark birthday with a little help from her friends.
Phyllis Hobbs, originally from Cornwall, was born on May 4, 1918, and moved to Llanelli where she lived for 73 years before moving to Nantlais residential complex in 2016.
Since she moved to the complex 18 months ago, Phyllis has been a member of the coffee morning and enjoys attending craft sessions regularly.
Members of the coffee club organised a party for her last week ahead of the big day.
Speaking at the party, she said: “Everyone at Nantlais coffee morning is really good to me.
“I was surprised when I had a party.
“I have been spoilt.”
Phyllis’ daughter Glenis added: “I would like to thank everyone at the coffee morning group and also Carmarthenshire County Council who have been brilliant since my mother moved to Nantlais.”
A family party also took place at the Tafarn y Deri in Llanedi on Saturday.
Mayor of Ammanford Colin Evans said: “On behalf of Ammanford Town Council, we would like to wish Phyllis a happy 100th birthday.
“Any readers who know someone who is soon to be turning 100 and would like them to be presented with a gift, please contact the clerk of the Town Council.”
