RESIDENTS have expressed concerns about a dangerous road, they don’t believe is being policed enough, following a crash.

Nigel Humphries, of Penpound Lane, Llandybie, witnessed a crash on the A483 near his home on Wednesday, March 14, which resulted in a car ending up upside down on its roof.

A few years ago, Mr Humprhies campaigned for the speed limit on the road to be reduced from 40 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour.

The speed limit was eventually changed, however residents living on or near the road are still experiencing problems.

Mr Humphries said he believes crashes like the one that happened last week are still occurring because the matter isn’t being policed and cars are still travelling at speeds in excess of the new reduced speed limit.

He added: “I have had meetings before when I have asked when something is going to be done about it.

“Is it going to take someone to die before they do something about it?

“Talking to them you get the impression that the police are just not interested.

“I campaigned three years ago for a 30mph limit due to the speed of the traffic on this stretch of the road.

“The limit was eventually changed, but no change has been seen in the speed of the traffic.”

It as an ongoing issue for Mr Humphries, who says he has been told by police that they cannot monitor the speed along the road.

He said: “The residents around here have had to put up with the road speed for years and nothing is being done.

“We all take our lives in to our own hands when either attempting to exit Penpound Lane and other properties on this stretch of road or just walking up the road, if you dare.

“We have been told by the police at a meeting for the village of Llandybie that it is too dangerous a road for the police to monitor and nothing will be done until there is a fatality.

“It beggars belief.

“I’ve been to see Adam Price, the assembly member, about the problem because something desperately needs to be done, it is too dangerous.”

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police works in close partnership with GoSafe to keep roads safe.

"The A483 has been recognised as an area of concern for GoSafe, who undertake speeding enforcement along the road. Since 2017, 81 people have been caught speeding there.

"Nearby Pentregwenlais Road is a priority area for Carmarthenshire Roads Policing Unit, who carry out regular enforcement activity at the site.”
