Don’t forget – bin collection days change over Christmas

Residents in Carmarthenshire are being reminded that there are changes to bin collections over the festive period.

Collections due to take place in between Monday, December 25 until Friday, December 29 will take place two days later then usual. For example, Monday collections will take place on Wednesday.

Collections will be taking place on Sunday, December 31 if your usual collection date is Friday, December 29.

Collections due to take place from Monday, January 1 until Friday, Janaury 5 will take place one day later. For example, Monday collections will take place on Tuesday.

All other days are as normal. These changes also affect council trade waste customers.

A lot more rubbish tends to be produced at this time of the year so people are being urged to try and recycle as much as possible.

Blue bags should be used to recycle all your plastic bottles, cans and foil, e.g. mince pie cases, cardboard packaging, wrapping paper and cards.

Christmas food waste should go in green food bins so that it can be taken for composting.

Glass bottles and jars can be recycled at glass recycling banks; visit the recycling pages at Carmarthenshire.gov.wales for locations.

Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “We want to remind people about the changes to collections over the festive period. It is also important to remind people about the blue bags delivery, we hope it will make it easier for them to recycle even more.

“We would also urge people to use the food bins, as food waste is a significant amount of the waste currently being sent to landfill.”

There are also changes to recycling centre opening times over the Christmas period.

Trostre (Llanelli), Wernddu (Ammanford), Nantycaws (Carmarthen) and Whitland are all closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

They are open 8.30am to 12noon on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, all other days are as normal.

Anyone who recycles their Christmas tree at any of the centres will receive a free bag of Merlin’s Magic Compost.
