A 71-year-old man from Ffairfach has pleaded not guilty to raping a girl under 16 more than 30 years ago.

David Thomas, of Towy Terrace, was arrested as part of Operation Almond - an investigation into allegations of child abuse at a Carmarthenshire school and care home.

Thomas denied the allegation, dating back to between October 23, 1981 and October 22, 1982, at Swansea Crown Court.

He was arrested by officers from Operation Almond investigating allegations of historical abuse at Rhydygors School and Catref-y-Gelli children's home in Carmarthen.

He is due to go on trial in February.
