AMMANFORD residents who use wood pellets for fuel could be soon finding out ways to keep their homes warm while saving money thanks to a new initiative.

Organisers of a new energy initiative are hoping to extend advice and tips to the residents of Ammanford and Carmarthenshire by creating a new wood pellet fuel club and people are being invited to a special meeting to help start the ball rolling

Local Energy Action, a new initiative launched by Mentre Cwm Gwendraeth Elli has been working with local communities to help people save money on home heating bills and tackle fuel poverty.

Officer Paul Thomas is working with local communities to set up Fuel Clubs, the buying of heating oil in syndicates in order to pass on bulk buying discounts onto fuel club members.

In recent months the new Tawe Twrch Fuel club who members have saved up to 10% on heating oil deliveries have saved thousands of pounds for their members.

Fuel Clubs now exist all across Carmarthenshire and save thousands of pounds on heating oil bills for householders we want to keep creating more fuel clubs in areas where there are no current provision.

And, as there are a growing number of people in rural areas now using wood pellets to heat their homes, Local Energy Action are looking to expand their clubs.

They have been approached by an experienced fuel club organiser Phil Turner to look at setting up a Carmarthenshire Wood Pellet Fuel Club, in order to secure a better deal for wood pellets and encourage the use of local supply.

Anybody interested in becoming involved or supporting this new wood pellet initiative can contact Paul Thomas on 01269 871600 or via email at Paul@mcge.org.uk

There will also be a meeting held on Tuesday, March 8 at the Pensioner's Hall, Ammanford at 6.30pm- everyone welcome.
