A TOWY valley horse drawn carriage business have been devastated after one of their animals was put to sleep following a car accident.

Mark Evans Horse Drawn Carriage Master, based in Llangadog, lost their 15 year old stallion Wil after it was involved in a collision with a black Renault Megane during a funeral procession in Bridgend last week.

Following the accident near Sarn last Tuesday (February 23), with police first receiving reports at around 10.40am. Wil, who had been working with his partner Twm since they were three, was put to sleep at the scene.

The procession was making its way on a 30 mile per hour limited road to Coychurch Crematorium when the accident happened.

Mr Evans, who runs the business with wife Helen, received minor injuries in the accident posted graphic pictures of the aftermath on his Facebook page and urged followers to share them.

The pictures show Wil, the funeral carriage and the car.

Mr Evans posted: “I am sorry if these pictures are distressing,” adding “Anyone who witnessed the events on Tuesday 23 February please contact me.

“Please share these pictures far and wide.”

The couple have also spoken of their utter devastation over the events.

Hs page was flooded with messages of sympathy and well-wishes also offered to support Mr Evans.

And he was forced to warn people about alleged money collections being made following the accident.

“I believe a number of people have tried to set up sites to collect monies as a consequence of this incident,” write Mr Evans, “Please, please do not send money, I have not given permission to anyone to do such a thing. “

Instead he called for them to sign a petition asking for new rules on driving around horses writing: “Sign this and it will arrive in the House of Commons next week. Let it be Wil's legacy.”

The business had only hours before appeared on a S4C documentary made by Boom Cymru, Ceffylau Cymru (Welsh Horses). The show, which went out on Monday night, featured Wil and Twm as part of a look at working horses in Wales.

South Wales Police say an investigation into the cause of the accident was ongoing and that no arrests had been made.
