CARMARTHENSHIRE householders are being reminded of changes to their bin collections over the festive period.

Christmas collections will take place as follows:

Friday, December 25 moves to Sunday, December 27

Monday, December 28 moves to Tuesday, December 29

Tuesday, December 29 moves to Wednesday, December 30

Wednesday, December 30 moves to Thursday, December 31

Thursday, December 31 moves to Saturday, January 2

Friday, January 1 moves to Sunday, January 3

All other days will remain as normal. The changes outlined also affect council trade waste customers.

A spokesman for Carmarthenshire County Council also urged residents to ensure as much Christmas waste as possible is recycled.

“With all the eating and drinking we tend to produce a lot more rubbish at this time of the year which is why it is important to try and recycle as much as possible,” the spokesman said.

Blue recycling bags should be used for plastic bottles, cans, cardboard packaging, wrapping paper and cards.

Unavoidable Christmas food waste such as turkey bones and vegetable peelings should go in green food bins so that it can be taken for composting.

Glass banks should be used to recycle bottles and jars.

Executive board member for the environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “We want to remind people about the changes to collections over the festive period. It is important people continue to recycle using their blue bags and food bins.”

There are also changes to recycling centre opening times over the Christmas period.

Wernddu (Ammanford), Nantycaws (Carmarthen), Trostre (Llanelli) and Whitland are all closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. They are open 8.30am to noon on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
