MEMBERS of a Saron social club are reaching out to people in the community who may be feeling isolated and lonely.

Saron Cuppa club meet once a fortnight in the village hall, where around 20 regulars meet for a social get-together.

The over 50s club was set up by a group of friends whose aim is to help older people to live a more fulfilling life within their own community.

One organiser, Lynne Woods said she had heard of cuppa club’s in nearby villages and thought the village of Saron was in need of something similar.

“The main reason for the club is recognising that as you get older it is important to get out more,” said Lynne.

“Everyone who comes along does their bit, from making the tea, bringing along some cakes, and clearing up. It is a team effort.”

Phil Jones, who attends the club with his wife Hilary said it is a great way to meet new people.

“When my wife and I moved to the village we didn’t know anyone,” said Phil, who has recently made a new roadside sign for the Cuppa Club.

“Since coming to the club we have met so many people who we now class as friends.”

Fellow member Siwla Virago added, “The club is not just for Saron residents, everyone is welcome.

“There is no membership fee, just pay £2 on the day, this will include hot drinks, toast, biscuits and other tasty treats, and of course great company.”

The club holds themed events, the next one will be to recognise St David’s Day.

“We also have a book swap, which has really taken off,” added Siwla.

The club next meet at Saron village hall on Wednesday, March 4 from 10am to 12pm.

“I would urge anyone to come along,” said member David Watt, who attends with his wife Susan.

“It is not just for couples though, if you are living on your own I would urge you to come along, you will not feel intimidated, everyone is really lovely,” added David.
