Ffos Las Racecourse will celebrate its tenth anniversary with an evening of spectacular racing and music this Thursday, June 20.

Local trainer Evan Williams, will also be hoping to celebrate another milestone of 100 wins at the track. Based in South Glamorgan, Williams has had 98 wins at Ffos Las since it opened its doors in June 2009 and is the track’s top-performing trainer.

His wins include the course’s biggest race, the Dunraven Welsh Champion Hurdle which he claimed in October 2018 with Silver Streak.

Williams also had the course’s first ever winner with Plunkett in the 2009 Freebets.co.uk National Hunt Novices' Hurdle and hopes to remain top-performing trainer for years to come.

Williams said: “It would be fantastic to reach 100 winners there next week. Having the first ever winner at the track was a very special day.

"I am very proud of the course and look forward to racing there for many more years.”

He added: “It is a great track that attracts Welsh, English, Irish and Scottish trainers with brilliant facilities.

"The great thing about Ffos Las being so close to me is that first and foremost, it is a first-class track - you can run a very nice horse there with guaranteed quality racing.”

Williams has horses Grania O'Malley, Marble Moon and Market Road entered for Thursday’s anniversary fixture and will be hoping for victories to reach his century.

Four-time Champion Jump Jockey, Richard Johnson, is the current jockey top-performing jockey at Ffos Las, currently on 58 victories at the track with Sam Twiston-Davies close behind with 51 wins.

He said: “I can’t believe it’s been ten years already; I remember when it first opened, and I have enjoyed riding there ever since.

It has been a great addition to the racecourses in the UK, it has fantastic facilities and always a good atmosphere. It’s a big galloping track – I see it as the Newbury of Wales.

"I have enjoyed some great wins there over the last ten years and look forward to hopefully being there on Thursday and adding to those wins.”

The dual-purpose track was the first new National Hunt racecourse to be built in the UK for 80 years, now hosting 19 Flat and Jump race meetings a year.

There have been a number of famous horses who have enjoyed success at the track, particularly in the Dunraven Welsh Champion Hurdle.

The New One, whose stellar career included a win the big race at Ffos Las back in 2017 and Sprinter Sacre, who won the williamhill.com Novices' Hurdle by 10 lengths at the track in February 2011.

Ffos Las will be celebrating 10 years of racing in style with the Valli Boys performing from 4pm when gates open, as well as a brilliant Tom Jones tribute performing after racing finishes.

The celebratory evening of seven races, surrounded by views down the Gwendraeth Valley to Carmarthen Bay, hosts outstanding hospitality and entertainment with restaurant packages also available in The McCoys Suite.
